Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for conduct stockpile reclaiming operations
   • Access, interpret and apply conduct stockpile reclaiming operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, interpret and clarify/confirm work requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply geological and survey data required to complete the allocated work
   • Carry out worksite inspection and rectify or report hazards and/or other notifiable conditions
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment
   • Using site communication methods and systems communicate clearly and concisely work requirements to others
   • Access and apply safety information and procedures throughout the work, and ensure safety of others, plant and equipment
2. Operate plant and equipment
   • Coordinate activities with others at the site prior to commencement of, during, and on completion of the work activity
   • Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures
   • Determine the plant and equipment’s operating capacity and limitations
   • Operate plant and equipment controls to reclaim materials
   • Act on and report issues with monitoring systems and alarms
   • Load, sample and despatch specified materials
   • Recognise and respond to hazardous and emergency situations
   • Complete the work plan ensuring outcomes are achieved
   • Carry out reporting, complete and process written documents
3. Carry out operator maintenance
   • Carry out plant and equipment inspections and fault-finding
   • Carry out routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks
   • Visually inspect structures and components for fault conditions, wear and need of repair or replacement

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and effective completion of stockpile reclaiming operations to meet all required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

demonstrates completion of stockpile reclaiming operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

using site determined communication system and equipment

conducting pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown

operating plant and equipment controls to reclaim materials

carrying out loading, sampling and despatching of materials

conducting inspections and fault finding activities

site environmental requirements and constraints

awareness of hazardous goods procedures and consequences of spills

indicator readings

principles of contamination

reclaimer characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

impact of reclaiming operations on customer quality requirements
